Crazy Next Two Months -  T Shirts and Surgery

I found out Wednesday that I will need a 4th abdominal surgery.  This one is more dangerous and more complicated then the last three.  At least two months of recovery rather than about six weeks.  Sigh.  Nothing but liquids for Thanksgiving (my favorite eating holiday) and a smoothie for Christmas.

Oh well.  I won't be able to pick up things (like quilts) for awhile so I am scrambling to get two t shirt quilts done before the 15th, the day of the surgery.  Can't tell a fabulous customer the bad news about her Christmas gifts.  And that's fine - It keeps my mind on better things.

I love t shirt quilts.  What other way can you be reminded of your memories and be hugged at the same time!

I like to make each memory stand out on its own by adding sashing.  This Baylor quilt was especially fun as I alternated the borders yellow green and green yellow.  I also like to do an all over meander so that the quilt will never separate from the batting and backing.

The quilt above was done by putting all the squares that are the same size together in the middle then adding the various other lengths along the borders.  I would love to make a t shirt for you.  just contact me through my Grammies Inspirations    Etsy page.

Others make quilts with the t shirts with no sashing and it gives it a more scrappy look to the quilt.  Since lots of scrap quilts are also memory quilts, it makes sense.

Above is a sample of a scrap quilt.  I found it on LoriLynneQuilts Etsy page.  That was a lot of work to get all those pieces to fit together.  Kudos to Lori Walker.

So off I go to start the second top for my customer.  How do you like your t shirt quilts made.

Okay let's try this again

My last post was in 2014.  I guess I fell asleep and I'm waking up.  Then all heck broke loose with my health.  I've had three emergency surgeries, hundreds of tests, days and days of recovery after each surgery.........

There is now another pain in the same place, so who knows what is coming next.  But in every case, as soon as I'm allowed, I start quilting again.  So I thought I might share a few pictures of what I have been doing and then get back into the groove of posting the details.

So, I've made some pillows:

And some snack mats

I love nature so here are some bird snack mats

I'm on another project that I'll post about soon, but I just thought I should show you a little bit of life after surgery. See you soon!
