http://etsy.me/mkRj0n  Quilters are like everyone else.  Looking for words to live by.  This phrase has a fun twist to it as it speaks directly to the heart of the quilter.

This is a part of a custom order wall hanging I did for a very nice lady who lives in Florida, and has a camp in North Carolina.  She wanted someothing that would cover the electrical panal on her wall, but also compliment the silk screen she had on the other wall.  She picked out the turquoise fabric and two accent colors, then sent them to me.  I drew out the pattern and this is a peek at what I came up with.  I can do custom orders for you too.  Just visit my etsy or Artfire shop and send me a message.

Memorial Day

An esty collection honoring our veterans http://etsy.me/kOZiZ5

Who knew when I started my business that a chicken would become a big part of my shop and the question: Why did the chicken cross the road would lead so many to view my art work. Here are a few examples 1) Why did the chicken cross the road? To show you her new hat! This is a really fun mini quilt because I actually found fabric with feathers on it. The chick looks like she is waving to you as she crosses. 2) Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the quilt shop! 3) Why did the chicken cross the road? To show you her new hat! Except that her hat is a big pink flower. 4)Why did the chicken cross the road? To show you her new hat and then go shopping!

I was at my mom's house after a rainstorm and I went outside to check the flower beds. There was one of her garden stakes, a big fat bird with a flower on her head. The flower had blown in with the wind. This lead to a photograph. I had the photo up for sale forever on Etsy and it had a few looks but no takers.

So one day I was looking at it and all these funny chicken images came to mind. Thus I made the Why did the chicken cross the road series of mini quilts and table runners.

Please visit my shop at http://www.artfire.com/users/GrammiesInspirations and enjoy my chickens's version of Why did the chicken cross the road. It would be fun to have this in a child's room and you can spend time together making up your own answers to the question.

learning to learn in layers

I recently joined Artfire  http://www.artfire.com/users/GrammiesInspirations as a means of selling my art.  I would like to do well there - both in connecting with great people and with selling my art.  There is a help guide - 45 days to selling on Artfire.  So I should believe that in 45 days, I'll have the perfect site to sell my quilts.  But the 45 days have inner links and things to do.  If I do them all I'll never get back to making things.  If I stop making things to sell, then...I won't sell.  But if I don't know the best way...

It's an interesting problem faced by those of us who are entering the online world of social networking.  I would love to hear your thoughts.   And it's also interesting that my friends and neighbors are interested in my work now and they haven't been to my sites.

I have been selling on Etsy at http://www.etsy.com/shop/GrammiesInspirations I wasn't dealing with this issue there, but I also thought people would just flock to my shop and the one in a thougsnad would just love everything I made.  So obviously a part of me is just plain silly.

Fabric and thread

How can something that doesn't look alive suddenly come alive with the manipulation of fabric and thread.  You take a few snips, you cut a few shapes and voila it's an owl like this one or some other thing your brain sees when you play around.  How the image makes it from brain to completed project will always be something I marvel at, especially inthe world of artists with tremendous talent.

Expanding the boundaries

GrammiesInspirations - ArtFire Artisan Studio  I joined ArtFire as another place to sell my art.

etsy questions

I rarely see a quilt on the front page of etsy and I have never seen a treasury of quilts make it to the page.  Why is that?

Creaters of bliss

I wonder about artists.  When I am lost in my quilting, there is nothing going on around me.  Life gets much simpler.  There are lots of things I suspose I should worry about, but I am learning more and more that the control of my life is not in my hands.  Thus the love for art and the challenge to see if I can create in fabric what I see in my head - can i control my hand enough to create a vsion.  Is that how you fellow artisits see your art?

some examples of my art can be found at http://www.etsy.com/shop/GrammiesInspirations

Skiing and snowboarding by quilt

http://etsy.me/gqPB95.  This is an unusual quilt.  I've only seen one other and I'm the one who made that one as well.  I am thinking about adding trees.

Having a bad day?

Whenever I am having a bad day, I think about this poor fellow.  I always know there is an answer to my problems.  http://etsy.me/e3FWba

An owl to keep you on task

I love how the eyes turned out on this owl.  He is a combination of stern task master and smarter than thou attitude with just a bit of sarcasm thrown in.

I seem to have one of everything in my shop.  Today it's a tiny bag, large enough to hold a pair of ballet slippers, a drink and a towel.  Simple to make..should I make more?  The fabric is actually vintage, though I think the manufacturer is still printing the design.

I like to keep trying new things or playing with new fabrics.  I think it's the fabric that drives me.  No, I KNOW it's the fabric that drives me.  That's the real reason why I make one of something.  the fabric never speaks twice about its possibilities.  http://etsy.me/enpp5y

My first attempt at cross stitch

My mother made beautiful things with cross stitich.  After watching her, I wanted to give it a try.  I think it turned out really well.  Happened so long ago that it is now a vintage piece.  It's framed and ready to hang. http://etsy.me/dHwauf

so sorry

forgot to review my spelling in the previous post.

Batiks and Bamboo

I winder what it would be like to live in a city apartment.  I would really want to liven up my living space with color.  That's why I like the idea of putting this quilt up on a wall.  The babmboo color borders and the tropical baticks can take you away to a seaside oasis.  This could also be used for a doll's quilt or on a table.  http://etsy.me/e5cdUZ
