Botanical pillows

I made something simple this time.  I found this fabric printed panals of three illustrations of flowers.  They have rich colors and the old style of print. http://etsy.me/dYKMit  They are small and three fit on a chir easily or one per chair in an outdoor room.

Quilted poetry

I started out making the trunk of the tree.  I wanted to make something that combined all my stitiches.  I really love how it turned.  I then made the leaves and the acorn and appliqued all three to the background fabric.  But the spot between the branch and the acorn bothered me.  Even though I had quilted leaf shapes into the background it still looked blank,  The spot spoke ti me and I quilted a poem unto the fabric.

A chance to do your own quilting.

This is a full size quilt top.  Squares in squares in squares.  I love to make tops but I feel I cannot due justice to quilting larger quilts.  I can do anything smaller than this.
This is a chance for someone who loves quilting to do their own top.  You can also take it to a long arm quilter in your area.  http://etsy.me/g4CmEV

Turn anyway quilt for a small space

Black is not usually a color I use, but it really makes the quilt pop.  The hexagons are sewn by hand, then appliqued onto the black background.  The background is quitled by machine. This is a great quilt for a modern urban space.

I really love folk art.  I love the idea that imperfections can create beauty.  And because I am not skilled enough to make things that look perfect, it allows me a place in the creative world.  This is a lovely small Christmas wall hanging that could stay up on the wall year round.  It's great for urban apartments where wall space is at a premium.

After my mom's stroke, she underwent hours of physical therapy.  I told the physical therapist that she needed to be able to hold a needle again.  This is the result.  Unfortunately this pair of Santas does not fit the back of any chair I own.

Embroidery thread for sale

This is a lovely box of my mom's embroidery thread.  She made beautiful thread, but I don't seem to have the same patience for making things perfect.  I bet there are some of you who could use this box of thread to make real beauty. http://etsy.me/gcHEwt

Bowtie Vintage Quilt

Bowties are both funny and formal.  On a clown they are usual bigger than normal and in bright colors.  In a wedding they are usually black and much smaller.  Here are bowties in a quilt made from 1970s and older fabric scraps.  Most of the quilt is hand done. All of the quilting is by hand.  It is vintage so there is some fading of the fabrics.http://www.etsy.com/shop/GrammiesInspirations

Zebras

Zebras are the most unusual animal in the world.  Well then there are giraffes, jellyfish.. Well okay zebras are one of the most unusual animals in the world.  My mom owned this piece of jewlry but I never saw her wear it.  I like the way the metal makes the zebra's stripes.  http://www.etsy.com/shop/GrammiesInspirations. http://www.etsy.com/listing/51920185/vintage-zebra-brooch
I am going to design a quilt soon.  It will have a fabric in it with zebra striptes.  Watch for more hints.

I used to have a parrot.  He was great fun.  Loved to explore when I let him out of the cage. One day he sat on the fish bowl and the rest is ..well a quilt.  Enjoy this whimsical art quilt.  Notice I didn't make the edges straight.  My usual act of rebellion of conforming to rules.   http://etsy.me/f9Q9ol

round better than rectangular.

A pond isn't rectangular.  Why should we assume a quilted wallhanging of a pond should be rectangular.  By using a round embroidery hoop to frame this wall hanging, it allowed me to quilt water and waves and think "like a pond".  The soft pastels of this piece makes for a peaceful setting when looking at it.  Great for a small space where you need to unwind and relax.  This piece would be pretty on an uraban apartment wall or in an outdoor room in the country. http://etsy.me/ejMxmo

Haiku quilt

Who said poetry had to be written on paper only?  I made the quilted wall hanging first.  The tree was the best part.  It allowed me to use decorative stitches.  I then added the leaves and acorn.  But the blank spot kept talking to me.  I needed something peaceful.  And then the words of this poem came to mind.  I embroidered it, then added a little fabric marker to bring out the words a little better.

only the parrot thinks it's funny

Sometimes my art work is just plain silly.  I let the fabric speak to me.  It was the fabric that makes up the water in the fishbowl that talked to me this time.  The rest just flowed out as I went.  I really like the color and texture of the table too.  http://etsy.me/fvaRzZ

Small quilted purse

This is made by hand with lots of little scraps. Sometimes we don't need a purse with lots of pockets.  This is a simple little bag that fits on your arm.  Room enough for your wallet and phone.  great for shopping when you plan on carrying lots of store bags.

Mr and Mrs Santa Claus

Mrs Claus rarely gets any credit for how hard it must be to be the wife of the chief toymaker in the world.  These chair back decorations help to solve that.  They can be purchased at http://etsy.me/g85l8v

Want to decide your own way to quilt a top?

I love to quilt, but I thought it would be nice if  sometimes I offered a quilt top and let the buyer choose the way they wanted the top done.   There are so many talented long arm quilters out there.  There are also folks who only like to quilt, but not make tops.  So here's achnce to buy a top in lovely green and brown earth tones of squares in squares in squares.   http://etsy.me/g4CmEV

american fabrics

for those who liked my Memorial Day quilt on blogger, facebook and etsy, I saw some of the fabrics for sale on equilter.com. I'm sure you can buy them many other places (and I am not an advertisment for equilter), but thought I'd pass along one source. If you type in flag or americana or fourth of july in fabric websites you will probably find them there, too.

lily pad in a pond

My mom made a quilt with this pattern many years ago. I put it up on etsy and it sold almost immediately. I made three more with entirely different fabrics than the ones my mom used. An example is below. If you like it you can go to http://www.etsy.com/shop/GrammiesInspirations to see a other photographs of this and a similar wall hanging that has two flowers in it.

My dad was in World War II, my brother in Viet Nam. Where I grew up in Vermont, there was a Memoiral Day parade ever year. I was either in the band or my Girl Scout troop. There was a service on the town common and I remember taps and Flanders Field where the poppies grow. I have always had a love for my country and the freedoms it provides me. I made this quilt with those values in mind and pray that we do not give them up to lesser values that slowly eat away at those freedoms.
